Today was a really awesome sports-themed day. It started off with something non-sports related though, my Tiger Transition Team interview. Tiger Transition Team is an organization at LSU in which an incoming freshman is paired with an underclassman with the same major as them. I participated with them last Fall and I really enjoyed it. I think there's a previous post on here about my mentee. I am really excited for round 2 next Fall.
After my interview, my friend and I headed down to the stadium to watch the LSU Spring Game. The spring game is pretty much a scrimmage game open for the public to see. The team has just started practicing again and it's a very chill and relaxed game. It is just a national presentation of the new talent that will be playing. Before the game, there was an autograph session with 27 former LSU All-American football players. I got really excited and bought a football last night to be signed. Unfortunately, they shut the line down though before I got up there. But, it was not a complete disaster, as former LSU cornerback and now cornerback for the NY Giants, Corey Webster was just going around the lines signing. If you haven't seen Corey Webster play, you should. He is one of the best cornerbacks ever to put on that white and gold jersey. I give him a lot of props for actually mingling with the fans. The spring game as usual was very competitive between our two teams. The new junior transfer quarterback Zach Mettenberger looked pretty good but it has been reiterated plenty that Les Miles' guy is Jordan Jefferson. This small taste of football is just making me so anxious for September to come around.
After the football game, I decided to meet my previously mentioned mentee at the LSU softball game against Alabama. Her best friend plays for the Tigers so she always goes to the games. This was my first official softball game at LSU and it was a thrilling one. It was tied up for 10 innings until one of our girls hit a walk-off 2 run home run to seal the win. These girls definitely know how to get out of a difficult situation as there were many times, that Alabama was on the doorstep looking to score. The atmosphere at Tiger Park is just electric also. Our umpire kinda had major officiating issues but the Tigers were able to rise about that and find there hot bat at the perfect moment. I think I want to go watch some softball more often now.
