Day 225 - 1/27/11

So bringing a box of cookies to my small group meeting tonight was definitely a good idea. Everyone loves cookies with their coffee/hot chocolate. Unfortunately, they just about cleaned house on my cookies. Fortunately, I always have an ace up my sleeve. So guess who bought an extra box at Wal-Mart? This guy typing right now. I'm so pro.

As promised I am going to debrief on how the meeting went with my group. I actually shared with them my blog so hopefully they will read this and attest to it's truth. Overall, it was an awesome meeting. Everyone participated in the discussion. Everyone was open and honest and my thoughts about self-management were definitely were well delivered. We started off the evening with a game called "Any Ole Bag Will Do." The premise was to bring 3 items that describe you in a bag of your choice. It was a great way to learn new things about each other and have a good laugh in the process. We continued on with my presentation of self-management. I think they definitely took something from it and it sparked wonderfully deep discussion. The part I found most fulfilling as their peer mentor was the end of our meeting when we decided on our personal, academic, and social goals. I felt it helped build accountability and trust within our small group. Goals are best achieved with a support system is there to motivate.

In conclusion, I am a proud peer mentor. It's funny as I read facebook and see how every other peer mentor is bragging how their small group is the BEST. Each of us, as mentors, can say that we are very impressed with how open, sincere, and enthusiastic all the Leading Edge participants have been. There is so much more to accomplish in the oncoming weeks and every Thursday continues to be my favorite day of the week.
