Happy Friday the 13th! As I look back upon today, I think I saw myself pretty lucky and satisfied. Tonight, I got the opportunity to watch some local theater. My friend Abigail invited me to go watch "The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee" at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center and I must say, it was definitely more than I expected. I have always been a avid play watcher, with various productions such as Phantom of the Opera, A Little Night Music, and Romeo and Juliet under my belt. However, tonight's performance definitely shows me that a great performance is built on a foundation of simplicity and flow. This play/musical is pretty much the story of a not so typical spelling bee in which the words are just as quirky as the contestants. Match that with a very modern storyline and hilariously awkward situations and you got yourself a very humorous production. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
