Today was a lesson in losing. Obviously, someone has to win and someone has to lose. Today was just our day to lose. The game against West Monroe this morning was pretty rough...I won't share the score but know that it was pretty lopsided. We just weren't all there and our state tournament came to an abrupt end. Regardless, I'm glad that my little brother and his team got this far. As disappointing as it was, something good will come out of it. It's all about moving forward and getting better. Losing is one of those things that hurts temporary and then it's gone. To be in our position (in any sport, take your pick), full of potential and great individual talent and to go out the way we did, it's hard to not care or be concerned but that is one of quirks of sports. For every USA-Canada gold-medal game, Landon Donovan game-winning goal against Algeria, and Duke Men's NCAA basketball championship, there are plenty of underwhelming moments: Michael Vick dogfights, Tiger Woods scandals, and Cleveland sports heartache. Same goes for life, sometimes you lose more than you win. But, that's no reason to beat yourself up about it and give up. One day, your moment will come. It just wasn't their moment but it'll be ok. I find it perfectly fine to care too much about these types of situations. I think you're cheating yourself if you don't. Caring too much entitles that you were dedicated and faithful to the task at hand, even if it didn't get completed to the fullest. So baseball is over for a while, it'll kick back up in the fall...in the meantime there's still plenty more things to do this summer.
