Day 288 - 3/31/11

Tonight my Leading Edge small group and I got to spend the evening with a special group of kids. These are the same kids from LSVI that we visited once before. Our Leading Edge session planned tonight was that we organize a service project. The project we chose to do with the kids was to paint ceramic bowls with paint. One thing the kids wanted to do as a service project was something that they could give back to the community. These bowls will be fired and donated to a local charity to use. Each one of my small group members paired up with a child and they painted. It's funny and endearing how a plate of paint, brushes, and a blank canvas can spark a friendship. In a way, that blank bowl is is the beginning on a new friendship. You really don't know what to start with, but you just take a color and add layers till it becomes something completely filled and beautiful. Those LSVI kids teach humility in their presence. It just radiates off their faces. I think what I really gained from this whole experience is that you don't need perfect eyesight to have a vision. A vision of making the world a better place in whatever way you can contribute can be seen without the need of eyes. What matters most is that it is felt. I'm really proud of small group for giving their time, effort, and a good attitude in making this night a success. I know they gained a lot out of it.
