Day 205 - 1/8/11

Pennies from my thoughts add up. I hope you bring change. - Chiddy Bang

From the looks of this football packed weekend (College Bowl Games, Wild Card Playoff Games, etc.), I am finding hard to talk about anything else except football. It seems that around this time of year, my passion and love for the game just grows.

Which brings me to my next statement: I have witnessed a Shocker in Seattle today. The beloved reigning Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints were upset by the Underdog How Did They Luck Into the Playoffs Seattle Seahawks. The Saints were a +11 point favorite over the Seahawks. How did this happen? Frankly, I am surprised as anyone who doesn't live in Seattle is. Being a Falcons fan, I know the talent of that team. However, any team can lose any given Sunday, well Saturday in this case. Seattle started slow and it looked like an easy Saints victory...but that's why you play the game. The Seahawks played inspired behind the veteran leadership of QB Matt Hasselback and RB Marshawn Lynch. If anyone remembers Hasselback lead Seattle to the Super Bowl in 2006. What surprised me and probably most of America was the lack of pass defense demonstrated by the Saints. The Saints were beaten multiple times off the line scrimmage by the Seattle aerial attack. Something was amiss. This squad that relied heavily upon turnovers last season could only acquire one, which was a tipped pass. Needless to say, Seattle embraced their underdog role and played a solid game. A game that most people identify as a 7-9 quality. The play of the game was a remarkable Marshawn Lynch 67 yard touchdown run that is already making its mark as one of the greatest playoff runs in NFL history. This game can only be described as that run was: absolutely ridiculous.
